Dr. Jho's minimally invasive endoscopic approachs to the pineal tumors
Dr. Jho's minimally invasive surgery utilizes endoscopic approaches either via a supracerebellar approach (with a small skin incision behind the ear) or a transventricular approach (with a small skin insion at the frontal area) for pineal tumors.
1. Endoscopic supracerebellar approach via a small incision
Through a small incision behind the ear, a tiny opening is made at the skull. An endoscope is advanced towards tumor by following the tentorium. The tumor is then removed under endoscopic visualization.
2. Endoscopic transventricular removal of the tumor via a small incision
A small hole is made at the frontal area via a short straight skin incision. An endoscope is advanced towards tumor through the ventricle. Tumor removal is often limited to biopsy with this technique. Third ventriculostomy can be performed if obstructive hydrocephalus is present.
